Henry Darger

Ahhh I finally decided to share my biggest inspiration of this past year with ya'll XD
I discovered the world of Darger in early spring. It highly influenced my own creation to this day.
My final art project for school this year was clearly displaying this new influence.
Darger's work gave me new creative perspectives and an unprecedented freedom in my practice.
I hope to be able to use these changes and turn them into a new form of art that would be closer to who I really am, more spontaneous, strange but cute, disturbing and unrestrained.

These are 2 samples of my recent artwork influenced by Darger. View my slideshow for bigger images.

You really need to read a little about this man and his amazing story.
His life was miserable, he was a lonely, misunderstood outsider whose abundant and secret works were discovered and recognized long after his death.

i love colors :] (nokiddin)

" COLOURLovers is a resource that monitors and influences color trends. COLOURlovers gives the people who use color - whether for ad campaigns, product design, or even in architectural specification - a place to check out a world of color, compare color palettes, submit news and comments, and read color related articles and interviews.

The COLOURlovers™ community is regularly updated with information and examples of the way colors are used in the real world -- along with news articles on color trends and interviews with top creative professionals. Here everyone who is interested in the practical applications of color can find an index of color trends as they are happening.

Together, they create a color trend index for the entire world provided by users of color worldwide. It's a tool designers and artists of all kinds use to work with colors in new ways and quickly find out what's hot and what's not. This site allows anyone to find their inspiration for color by searching, sorting and filtering through keywords to a color scheme that interests them... or create and share your own!"

I find the idea very different and useful. As an artist, it shows you what kind of colors you tend to use the most, and lets you try variations you might have never thought of in your daily practice. For once, it's creative in a conceptual and more abstract way, and I find it somewhat educational as well.

Documenta XII - Kassel

Last week we (30 classmates, 6 teachers & I) went to see the 12th Documenta in Kassel, and to Münster for the Skulptur Projekte 07.
For those who don't know about the Documenta, here is how wikipedia defines it:

"Documenta is one of the world‘s most important exhibitions of modern and contemporary art which now takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany. It was founded by artist, teacher and curator Arnold Bode in 1955 as part of the Bundesgartenschau (Federal Horticultural Show) which took place in Kassel at that time. This first documenta was - in contrast to most expectations - a considerable success as it featured most of the artists which are generally considered to have had a significant influence on modern art, e.g. Picasso or Kandinsky. The more recent documentas feature art from all continents, nonetheless most of it is site-specific.
The documenta is perceived to be one of the world's most important art exhibitions."

And this is a quick definition of the Skulptur Projekte from the website www.gi-tage.de :

"The fourth international sculpture projects muenster take place in summer 2007. Since 1977, this large exhibition invites artists from all over the world to create new work in the city of Muenster. The events - taking place only every ten years - have put Muenster on the map of world renowned addresses for contemporary art.

sculpture projects muenster 07 runs from June 16 to September 30, 2007. For one hundred days, the exhibition will put its stamp on the city and the region.
Around 500 000 visitors are expected to come to Muenster for the exhibition and to attend the wide-ranging series of supporting events."

We rode on a big tour bus, for a 12hrs trip. We spent each day visiting the exhibitions from 9am to 10pm. The weather was so cold and shitty the whole time, it was just crazy. In Münster we rented bikes to tour the city, and do a little "sculpture hunt". I'm so glad we still managed to have so much fun. .^____^. I just wish the whole group had been there. 17 students couldn't make it. But well, all in all, it was like a big family, and it felt like we were kids again on one of those good ol'field trips. [=

Here are a few pics I took over there.

A few contemporary artists...

Here are a few contemporary artists that -in my opinion-
deserve much more recognition than what they have today.

While I'm here, I'd also like to share this beautiful song with you.
For some mysterious reason, evey single time I hear it, I start crying like a baby...
Weird huh.
